USHWA-Florida is an authorized chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association. The United States Harness Writers Association (USHWA), the leading organization of harness racing’s chroniclers, has chapters throughout the United States and in Ontario, Canada. Its members are recognized publicists, journalists, photographers along with youth members with interest in journalism and the Standardbred horse industry.
The Florida Chapter held annual awards banquets historically. In the last event, Tony Alagna, Frank Antonacci, Tom Merriman, Laurie Poulin along with the champion pacer McWicked were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The 2020 awards were presented in 2021 directly to the recipients by members of the Florida Chapter. Summaries of those presentations are included herein. Subsequent Awards Banquets were cancelled due to the ultimate closure of Pompano Park. USHWA-Florida members remain as prolific writers about the standardbred sport, work that is published in leading web and print outlets.
